This month school terminates and all the municpal extra curriculum schools will be holding concerts or exhibitions of their work which are well worth the time to attend. Normally on the first weekend there are two rapid painting competitions in Torrevieja with cash prizes. The first is the 16th edition of the “Ciudad de Torrevieja” depicting scenes of the town with the artists’ paintings on display in the RENFE Exhibition centre. The second is the 7th Commercial Rapid Painting Exhibition in Torrevieja with excellent prize money for paintings of a designated central street of Torrevieja. The annual presentation of prizes to local sportspeople will be presented at a Sports gala and in fact this month there are umpteen sporting events, especially at sea, although Torrevieja FC will be cheered on again by the Torry Army to try to rise to the next division (www.fctorrevieja.com).
24th is feast of St. John the Baptist and on the previous evening, the shortest night of the year, there will be a tremendous fireworks display of 25 minutes n the seafront, while people jump over fires and have midnght BBQs on the beach. Several “hoguras” will be burnt in the crema of the 24th, although Alicante is the place to be with nightly parades, daily fireworks right up to 29th. www.alicanteturismo.com

28/29 th - the 24 th Mile race in Torrevieja (perhaps in first week of July)

29 th : SS Peter & Paul: fiestas in Tabarca Island, Rojales (Moors & Christians) and San Pedro del Pinatar. There will be a Pauline year from June 28, 2008, to June 29, 2009, to mark the approximately 2,000th anniversary of the birth of Saint Paul of Tarsus (Turkey).

Nosolojazz in the last few days of June held in Elche

The end of school year will be marked by concerts and displays in the many municipal schools of dance, art, drama and music and the annual Sports Gala.

Lorca (Murcia) is a lovely town to visit and in June the Lorca Espirelia is celebrated, which is dedicated to   "All the Arts" with big names in concert, live theatre, art exhibitions etc. www.espirelia.lorca.es
